FAQ
How does Windowsill work? Windowsill helps you care for your houseplants in three main ways:
- It monitors soil conditions using the Mi Flora sensor
- It sends you alerts and reminders when your plants need care
- It helps diagnose and treat problems when they come up
What does the Mi Flora sensor measure? The sensor measures four key things:
- Soil moisture (how wet or dry the soil is)
- Light levels (how much light your plant is getting)
- Temperature
- Soil fertility (through electrical conductivity)
How often does the sensor take readings? The sensor takes readings every 15 minutes. When you open the app, it will sync with the sensor to get the latest data.
Do I need a sensor to use the app?
No! The app works great without sensors - you can track care tasks, get AI diagnoses when problems come up, and maintain care schedules for all your plants. Adding a sensor just gives you extra superpowers for that plant, like real-time soil moisture monitoring and precise watering alerts. Many users start with one sensor for their trickiest plant and add more over time as needed.
How does the Plant Doctor feature work? When you notice a problem with your plant:
- Take a few photos of the affected areas
- Describe what you're seeing
- The AI will analyze the photos and ask follow-up questions
- Once it has enough information, it will provide a diagnosis and treatment plan
Will the app tell me when to water my plants? Yes! For plants with sensors, you'll get alerts based on actual soil moisture levels. For plants without sensors, we'll create a care schedule based on your plant's species and growth stage.
What happens if I go on vacation? The app will continue monitoring your plants and will accumulate any care tasks that need attention. When you return, you'll see a prioritized list of what needs to be done first.
How do I get started?
- Download the app and create an account
- Add your first plant and input basic details like species and planting date
- If you have a Mi Flora sensor, follow the in-app instructions to connect it
- That's it! The app will guide you through the rest
